This group is open to everyone to come along, but it is especially suitable for those who would like to bring their dogs with them. We aim to plan routes that are dog-friendly, which means avoiding places where there are livestock as far as possible and places where dogs don’t have to be on leads all the time. That said, it won’t be possible to meet those criteria all of the time.
Walk lengths are in the 2 to 4 mile range, and we walk at the pace of the slowest person. Our walks are more of a social occasion than a serious hike. It may be muddy, so people need to have appropriate footwear, and dogs may not remain completely clean, but that depends on the weather and the time of year.
The nice thing about these walks is that you get to go somewhere different each time and away from where you would normally walk. Plus there is the fact that someone else has organised it most of the time — we actually take it in turns to lead walks. Most of the walks are a car journey away, and parking is arranged as part of the planning of the walk.
This group is new for 2024, and we have planned two walks to see how things turn out. These are in October and November, and everyone can come along on these two initial walks without the need to be a paid-up member of Saltford Walkers. (The Saltford Walkers subscription is £12/year and will start from 2025 for this group.)
