On an atmospheric November day 15 hardy souls, including a new member, joined me for a wander around the wider Keynsham area.
After gathering in the car park we walked through the park. On Station Road at the corner of The Avenue we learnt that a rather sad looking street light was one of the first installed in the area around late 1800. From here we passed the Alms Houses before making our way along Stockwood Vale and up Engine House into Queen Charlton. On the village green we had a refreshment stop while appreciating the peaceful surroundings.
After managing to cross Charlton Road without any mishaps we approached Chewton Keynsham. A local resident asked if we’d help him with clearing the weeds from his drive but after learning he had no biscuits we politely refused!
We returned to Keynsham via the fields which unusually were absent of cows. As we arrived at Albert Mill we talked briefly about the history of the mill. Walking through Dapps Hill the plaque on one of the houses shows the height of the water during the flood of 1968. We went out separate way back in the car park.
My thanks to all who attended.
