Amblers walk, Saturday 10th June 2023

Six of us started out from Swineford, making our way uphill via North Stoke to the Lansdown race-course. Paul kept us informed of the historical significance of the hills and slopes (English Civil War battles), and later described the trials and tribulations of primary school life in Upton Cheney for a Bristolian ‘in-comer’. Although quite humid, the conditions for walking (especially in the wooded areas) were good, and we met many other walkers.

A deer, a partridge and several alpacas were spotted, but not the 150 buzzards once seen by Paul! From Lansdown it was mostly downhill and, following a short comfort stop for one of our party at the Upton pub, we arrived back at the picnic area in good spirits.

  1. Pleased you had a good enjoyable walk. I regret that that the hot and humid weather made me uncomfortable about the prospect of the long climb from the river to top of Lansdown Hill so had to decline.
