After a slight hitch with the starting point (walk leaders check the pin drop is where you plan to start from), 11 of us headed East on an ancient London to Bristol road before walking a short section of the Monarchs Way where we stopped for coffee. The next section took us over the M4 on a footbridge along a Roman road before dropping down into Westerleigh. Here we took advantage of some picnic benches in the playing field to have lunch. The post lunch climb took us through a wood and up a long concrete staircase to open fields before heading down to the dramway and a tunnel under the M4 after which we saw the Brandy Bottom colliery remains. We finished the walk heading up again through a field before returning to the cars via some back roads.
Lovely walk. Thanks Martin.
